The room features a balcony and a view of one of the interior gardens of the hotel, where organic crops are grown. A queen-size bed, a desk and a space for relaxation. Mary Magdalene is the patron Saint of Aldama, Chiapas, where the tradition of dressing figures of saints with beautiful huipils preserves a centuries-old tradition. As such, in the days preceding the most important holidays, artisan women are busy elaborating true offerings out of fabric. When it is time to dress the saint with the new garment, the custom denotes to not remove the previous huipil but rather to place it atop the previous one, huipil over huipil, and as such, the town’s saint figurines grow layer-by-layer year to year. This tradition serves as the inspiration for the interior design of Ipil; ceremonial textiles with laboriously realized brocades that give form to complex and modern representations of the universe.
